Last August Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced plans to close down the 100-year old State Street Carson Pirie Scott location and the news was quickly buried. Amid the fury over the buy out and impending change of Marshall Fields, an inarguable Chicago staple, into the New York styled Macy’s, Carson’s State Street demise went largely unnoticed.

If you have ever been to the Loop, you’ve been touched by the preacher. He’s not hard to spot, or hear for that matter. Dressed in a bowler hat, cheap tie, dark suit and using the aide of a microphone and practice-sized guitar amp, Preacher Samuel Chambers is a constant reminder that “God ain’t gonna let no fags into heaven.”

Andy Ortmann is part of a dying breed. A quick Google search will reveal that he, through his band, Panicsville, his label, NIHILIST, and various other projects, has proven to be one of the last thought-provoking, prolific, and wholly “against-the-grain” types around.

Friday nights at Reversible Eye are a veritable cavalcade of expressive, unapologetically energetic crowds. The unassuming storefront is nestled between a window-less convenience store to the south and an empty, boarded storefront bearing a tangerine city re-zoning sticker to the north.

Punk rock lives in Lakeview. In order truly be a fan of the Ramones or Misfits, one must own at least three pieces of leather with the bands logo and/or name engraved. THE place in Chicago to buy pieces of leather that have Ramones and Misfits engraved is on the corner of Belmont and Clark, if you dare.
