The Machine Magazine, one branch of The Machine Media, a free monthly magazine focused on underground art, music, culture and politics in Chicago, is currently seeking interns in the following departments.

Advertising and Advertising Sales: Each advertising intern will have the opportunity to help in the development of advertising networking for the magazine.  Interns will not make coffee or photocopies; this is a very hands-on position.  Interns will be expected to help maintain advertising contact information, contact prospective advertisers and work with in-house designers for interested clients.

This is an unpaid internship requiring a commitment of 8-10 hours per week.  Class credit is available.

Marketing/Promotional Interns: Marketing interns will be in charge of coordinating co-sponsorships with venues, clubs and bars across the city as well as working with other regional and city publications to ensure the exposure of upcoming events.

Responsibilities also include working with the editorial staff to create a comprehensive marketing strategy to reach our target audience.  Additionally, marketing interns will be involved in choosing which venues and areas to distribute promotional and marketing materials.

It is preferred that Marketing/Publicity interns be 21+, however it is not a requirement.  This is an unpaid internship requiring a commitment of 1-10 hours per week.  Class credit is available.

What we are looking for in our interns

The ideal candidate for the position would express an interest in the underground and independent culture of Chicago.  The Machine Media is a start-up organization currently in the process of becoming a viable publication in the Chicago community.  Interns will take an integral role in this developmental and it is expected that they be willing to engage in the material covered by the magazine.

Our involvement in the music and arts communities in Chicago results in many benefits beyond the mere satisfaction of publication.  Interns may receive additional compensation in the form of complimentary tickets to shows, plays and events around the city.

If interested please send a resume and cover letter to Brandon AT themachinemedia.com and Kelsey AT themachinemedia.com
